Farage's Census Claims Challenged

Former UKIP leader's claims about immigration disputed

New census figures have been used to support claims that immigration is driving population growth in the UK. However, these claims have been challenged by experts who say that the figures have been misinterpreted

In a widely seen video on Twitter, former UKIP leader Nigel Farage claimed that new census figures showed that London, Birmingham and other major cities were becoming "majority immigrant".

However, experts have said that Farage's claims are misleading. They say that the figures show that the number of foreign-born people in the UK has increased in recent years, but that this is not the same as saying that immigration is driving population growth.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS), which conducted the census, has said that the increase in the number of foreign-born people in the UK is due to a number of factors, including increased migration and a rise in the number of foreign students.

The ONS also said that the majority of the population growth in the UK in recent years has been due to natural increase, rather than immigration.
